Monte Polveracchio Natural Oasis

Where the beech tree becomes a cathedral and the stream tells ancient stories among rocks and silences.

L’Monte Polveracchio Natural Oasis is located in the territory of Campagna (SA), within the Picentini Mountains Park, and was established in 1988.
It covers a mountainous area that includes the springs of the Tenza river, offering a refuge for forest and mountain species and an ideal space for excursions, activities didactics and nature lovers.
The oasis is divided into three managed areas:

  • equipped area,
  • nature trails,
  • full reserve (about 188 ha) where human presence is reduced to a minimum.
The visitor finds paths through the beech forest, rare flora and mountain fauna that invites silence and contemplation.
Between the leaves of the beech tree and the gurgling of the stream, nature writes its patience.

The beech forest of the oasis is the dominant scenery: majestic specimens, undergrowth rich in holly, daphne, rate, and one native station of birch pendula which makes the environment unique.
Le springs of the Tenza river flow between rocks and feed streams, providing habitats for protected species such as the spotted salamander, the italic newt and numerous other amphibians.
Mammals such as the wolf, the quercino, the marten and the fox frequent these environments, making the area one of the most intact in Campania for mountain fauna.

The summit is a promise; the path, a gentle invitation.

The nature trails start from the Salamander Spring, in the area of Malepasso (km 15 of the SP31 - Campagna-Acerno), and forks into two main sections:

  • the Badger Valley Trail,
  • the Menecal Water Trail.

The visitor centre, housed in a renovated farmhouse, offers cultural and environmental documentation and welcomes groups and school classes.
The protection of the oasis is entrusted to the WWF Italy, in collaboration with the Municipality of Campagna, which guarantees the preservation of the integral area.
