Giordano Bruno Association

Giordano Bruno: art reconstructing memory

L’Giordano Bruno“ Association”, exists thanks to the interest and proposal of Angelo Riviello, made to the group of the “Friends of the Museum and the Chiena”, one of the most important leaders and artistic coordinator of the newly established Museum, who put his skills and all his knowledge as a visual artist, acquired during his studies in set design, and during his stays, especially between Rome and Milan, and in his relations with the regional (with his references between Naples and Salerno) and national artistic environment, at the service of his city and the recovery of the Chiena, from 1982/85/87.

The birth of the association was conceived, desired and shared, for the purpose of protecting all the work carried out in those hot post-earthquake years, and founded and registered in the office of notary Angela Gammaldi of Campagna, on 13 January 1988 (Reg. Rac. 360/35) and registered in Eboli on 20 February 1988 , in the midst of the beginning of reconstruction. It was founded to enable the group of promoters (A. Corsaro, B. and V. D'Agostino, V. D'Ambrosio, D. De Chiara, G. Fezza, V. Maggio, A. Riviello and M. Velella) to work calmly, safely and with greater incisiveness and motivation, also involving other interested citizens, who adhered to the aims and objectives set out in the association's statute, for the birth and take-off at a national level of the Civic Museum, and of the “Rassegna/’A Chiena Festival dell'Acqua”, also becoming its founders, with the group of promoters (R. Bignardi, L. Cerrone, G.B. De Angelis, A. Gibboni, M.R. Polisciano, L. Ruggia, A. Valente.

Lo Statute was drafted along the lines of another existing and operational statute, that of the “Luigi Pecci” Association of Prato, which managed the “Pecci Museum of Contemporary Art”, adapted to the reality of the City/Territory of Campagna, and to its specific focus on “Contemporary Art and Ethno-Anthropology”. At the request of the coordinator Angelo Riviello, a copy was delivered to him by an Irish artist, Angela Magrini Hart ‘O Brien, who before moving to Campagna in 1992, where she actively collaborated with the Museum and the Chiena, until 1994, and with many artistic and cultural initiatives, throughout her life in Campagna, at the time he was living in Prato and knew the staff of the Pecci Museum and its Artistic Director, the Israeli Amnon Barzel, very well. Later, in 1989, we were invited as the Campagna Civic Museum (at the time included in the Campania Region Museums, in Flash Art Diary), to the Pecci Museum, for an International Conference on the theme of “Contemporary Art in the Mediterranean”, where among the speakers was prof. Achille Bonito Oliva (of the Salerno school of art criticism), at the time the undisputed theorist most in vogue, in the art system, with the Transavantgarde, both national and international, and the most popular art critic in Italy and the world.
