Dio d'Acqua (God of Water) is the diffuse visual arts festival of the town of Campagna dedicated to the theme of water and all its possible declinations. It was created as part of the activities of the Campagna Civic Museum Archive and is the central event in a programme of reconstruction and renewal of the town's museum institution. The festival consists of contemporary art exhibitions (site-specific and non-site-specific projects, a selection of works from the Civic Museum's collection) spread throughout the historic centre. These are complemented by a small film festival and other collateral activities (performances, workshops, concerts). The urgency of the theme, the possibility of treating it from different positions and with different points of view, are linked to the specificity of the Campagnese territory, crossed by two rivers, in particular the Tenza, which is the main artery of the historic centre and source of social and cultural energy of the city, from which the most characteristic event originates, the deviation of the river course and the feast of “’A Chiena”', today a tourist attraction of great impact, but in past centuries a ritual and procedure of purification of the city streets. Through the various forms of art, Dio d'Acqua aims to make visitors aware of the importance of the theme of water and the possibility of looking more closely at the possible effects that human action can have on the stability of the world and its places.
Starting on 22 March 2025, World Water Day, the Civic Museum Archive inaugurated a calendar of events with the screening of “ZioRiz”, a 2024 film by Raffaela Mariniello. The festival programme continued with “Onda su onda”, a lecture held by Dr. Francesco Brusco, a musicologist from the University of Pavia, who explored the relationship between water and pop music productions; and with “Acqua da tutte le parti”, an itinerary in the visual arts of the 17th century proposed by Dr. Giuliano Colicino (University of Salerno).
